ART PROGRAM
Art students are introduced to the great masters of art and, using basic art skills of color, value, line, shape, texture, pattern and design, work to recreate artwork of their own in the same style as Michelangelo, Monet, and Picasso. Students of older grades apply art skills such as perspective, contouring, shading, varying planes, and textures using color to express feelings and mood in their art work. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of mediums such as oil pastels, water color, chalk, and acrylic paint. By middle school, students will understand that the process is as important as the finished product.
MUSIC PROGRAM
Music is incorporated into many areas of our curriculum. Our students have the opportunity to sing praises to our Risen Lord every day in classrooms, weekly in chapel, and at special school services and events. We hope to instill in all students a love and appreciation of music of all kinds and see how it can enhance the lives of all people and cultures. Our students bring their voices together in the “Sonshine Singers”, our Kindergarten through 2nd grade choir, and the “Kingdom Kids” is the name our 3rd to 5th grade choir. Each meets regularly to learn and sing songs together.
BAND
All students from grades 4-8 are welcome and encouraged to participate in our band program. Offered through Augustana Arts Institute of Music, students will learn to play and develop their skills on their chosen instrument. Several concerts and other performances will be scheduled throughout the year. Band meets on Wednesday mornings most weeks, beginning in August, and includes both group and individual lessons.
