The Academic Performance of PWCCS Students

There are many measures that indicate how well students, as a group, are doing in school. Information about these measures is provided in this section. It should always be kept in mind that student background, parental support and student behavior in school also play an important part in the academic performance of students.

One measure of a student's academic performance is the grades he earns on his report card. Our students do very well. This year 13 students made all A's for the entire school year. Another 47 students made the A/B honor roll, that means no C's for any of the four quarters. A total of 60 out of 125 students achieved at these high level of academic performance. Remember, too, our students must have a ninety-five percent or higher to earn an A in a subject. Our grading scale is:
  • 100% to 95% = A -- Excellent Work
  • 94% to 85% = B -- Very Good
  • 84% to 75% = C -- Satisfactory Work
  • 74% to 65% = D --Needs Improvement
  • 64% and lower = F -- Not Satisfactory Work
Achievement Test Result

The Stanford Achievement Test was given at PWCCS in April of 2009. Not all the sub-tests of the Stanford Achievement Test are represented by scores in this document. Instead, several total scores for broad subject areas are shown.

Student performance on achievement tests is another means of measuring student progress for grades 1 through 8. At PWC, we use the Stanford Achievement Test. In recent evaluations, The Stanford Test scored very high in reliability among the most commonly used test of academic progress.

Our scores on the Stanford test are shown on the following pages. The tables of test scores present three important sets of data about the classes. The first column identifies the skills being tested at grade level.

Column two reports the average student's score at PWC in terms of grade equivalence. The national student average for a first grader taking this test in April of 2009 will be reported as a score of 1.8 (1st grade, ninth month) for each sub test. Typical second graders would have a score of 2.8 and so on. You can see that our students scored above the national average in all areas tested.

Column three gives the average of the individual percentile scores in comparison to other classes nationally on a scale of one to ninety-nine with ninety-nine the highest. A score of 75 means that the individual average score for the subtest for this class is better than 75 students out of a hundred. The national average on this test is 45. Of course some students score higher and others lower.

Column four tells the percentage of students from the class who have scored above the 50%ile for the skill area or at grade expectation.

You must remember in looking at this information that standard achievement tests do not measure everything students have learned or been taught. There is no standard achievement test to measure the religion portion of our curriculum, for example. The effect of instruction in the Bible, memorization of scripture and faith building efforts can instead be seen in the lives and actions of our children.

All scores have been rounded to the nearest whole percent.
